One of my favorite books ever is Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. It’s because of this book that I secretly wanted to have been born in 1930s Japan and trained to become a geisha (sans mizuage and you-know-what extra services). I absolutely fell in love with Zhang Ziyi in her portrayal of Sayuri (and yes I will name my future daughter Sayuri, as an attachment to her would-be full first name). It’s quite ironic that Chinese actresses Zhang Ziyi, Gong Li (as Hatsumomo) and Michelle Yeoh (Malaysian in citizenship though, as Mameha) got to play the three significant female roles in the movie version. They had to speak in English and I wonder if there are no Japanese actresses that can do that. (Well they’re known to be very nationalistic. Don’t hate on me, I’m just curious.) Another factor would be because these three women are well-known in Hollywood and all over the world, so why sweat it right?

Anyway, this is not a movie review nor a book review… errr… The other day, I put on this amazing maroon lipstick from Fanny Serrano and I was inspired to channel geisha! A little tweaking from Picnik.com (my new best friend. I don’t have Photoshop installed ’cause mine’s missing, I haven’t explored PhotoScape yet which I installed late last week, and Picnik’s super easy to use. Magpaliwanag ba raw? Stalling tactic… Hahahaha!) and I (almost?) achieved the flawless paper-white, blood red-lipped look of a “modern-day” geisha (gay-sha in my case LOL).
TA-DAH!
Behold the modern day GAYsha! |
Be more forgiving! Heehee. I’m not a makeup expert (obsessed with lipsticks though. :P).
Products used:
- Majolica Majorca Skin Remaker Pore Cover in BO10
- Johnson’s Baby Powder Nourishing with Milk for the extra whiteness, (I did not have any mena or similar product at the time hahaha)
- L.A. Colors eyeliner/brow pencil
- Fanny Serrano lipstick in Sweet Kiss
I think I used the CinemaScope effect on this one. |
