Makeup Inspiration: Elsa and Anna of Frozen

I know that I am quite late in this, but I’ve watched Frozen just last month. I knew the existence of this film way before it was shown because of a certain article in a women’s magazine website about films to watch out for in 2013, and I made a mental note to check it out. Unfortunately, the note got lost in the sea of daily brain activities, and I missed it during its run in the cinemas here in the Philippines.

I liked that there had been online debate on whether this film is really about girl power and all that. One of the main protagonists is a queen, not a princess, and does not have a love interest at this point (Frozen 2 anyone?). The younger main protagonist, Anna, learns that not all princes are good, some pretend to be just to have their own kingdom to rule, and that sometimes it’s the person you’ve never noticed before who is the one for you . He may not have a title, he may not be the most handsome, but he cares for you.

Speaking of caring, Olaf is the most adorable snowman of the decade, dishing out the classic lines: “Love is putting someone else’s needs before yours,” and “Some people are worth melting for.” Some people are worth the sacrifice, out of our love for them and out of our genuine concern for their welfare. I also adore the sisterly love element in this film. If this was Disney’s attempt to depart from the traditional damsel-in-distress-oh-I-need-a-man-in-my-life-preferrably-a-prince roster of princesses, it did a pretty great job.

Btw, my favorite “princesses” (because one is not, and is just pertained to as one by the viewing public) are Mulan, Pocahontas, and now, Elsa (who is actually a queen, so she’s in a league of her own). And yes, my mind automatically plays Let it Go at the moment.

CONGRATULATIONS are in order by the way, because Frozen won Best Animated Film in the Academy Awards!

So in celebration of Women’s Month, Frozen’s Oscar win, and my inability to properly put on eyeshadow, I give you thee…

…my own version of Elsa AND Anna’s makeup in the movie!

Elsa’s tranformation was a sight to behold. She looked super reserved and dreary and boring prior to her escaping into the ice-capped mountains, an outward representation of her holding everything back, her loneliness and sadness. When she finally felt free and was able to tap into her powers, the transformation beats Sailormoon’s. I bet 90s kids would agree.

Her look is basically, purple/lavender lids with hot pink/burgundy crease, pink cheeks and nose tip (“baby, it was cold outside” look), and a fuchsia berry to cranberry lip color (depends whether you follow the “press photos” or stills in the movie). I created the look with purple lids, hot pink crease, pink cheeks and end of the nose, and cranberry lips.

Anna is a burst of sunshine. She’s brave, a dash naive, a hopeless romantic, clumsy at times, and very funny.

I love her look because it’s practically no makeup makeup look if you tame down the blush. Neutral eyes, pink cheeks and nude pink lips. And don’t forget the freckles! I didn’t use a very pink blush for my look though.
